There was no looking back, you just have to enjoy the moment. The last day, when I was ready to do my own runway show, I was enjoying it. I made it a therapy collection, so once I started working on that, I was really focused. I was really having a hard last couple of days but I did find inspiration from all that and got into a better headspace. It was scary, you know? It's hard when you're in that situation and there was definitely pressure."ĭid you feel a weight off your shoulders after the final runway show? You saw on season eight when Gretchen won and Lifetime did a poll of who should have won and it came back 95% that I should have. I had to really, you know, get out of that headspace and it was really hard for me. "I think it was really living up to the speed of New York and my first time on Project Runway and reliving some of season eight. It seemed like more than everyone else you felt the pressure of the competition. ![]() She knows designers and her client and was very opinionated about my dresses and it was a great opportunity to prove that you don't have to sketch to be a great designer or win a challenge. Did anyone in particular make a big impact on you? You got the chance to work with a lot of great guest judges. It was really fun because I got a chance to do something that I was really content with." It was kind of a revisit to one of my season eight pieces, but that was the last one I did. What was your favourite piece from your final runway collection? Really, designing for a character is super interesting and lets you delve into different aspects of designing." "Probably - well, definitely the Broadway challenge. What was your favourite challenge from this season? It's what I do on a normal basis, so it was a really great opportunity to express myself." It was an opportunity to be visible and I wanted it to be an experience where I could share my point of view on things with the world and other designers. "Even going into season eight, I never thought of it as an opportunity to win a big prize and that's about it. ![]() What made you want to return to Project Runway? We caught up with Mondo to talk about his experience on the show and his plans for the future. The final designs had their intended effect, and Mondo was declared the winner of Project Runway: All Stars during Thursday night's finale. While he struggled for inspiration upon setting out to create his final collection, he eventually found it in the form of 'Therapy' - a range pulled from the insanity he felt as a result of the competition. ![]() Not satisfied with falling short of the final prize during his first attempt, the 33-year-old Denver, Colorado native came back with a vengeance, pumping out his signature mod-inspired pieces and continuously impressing not only the judges, but his fellow contestants alike.
